Since the origins of humankind, music has enriched people’s personal lives, but today, we also know that music can enrich our professional life too.
Some studies affirm that, people who listen to music while they work, perform quicker and make fewer errors.
Listening to music while working is, in fact, very important to me. For each project, I choose a different style, and this helps my brain to connect with what I’m doing, encouraging me to do my job better and faster.
Apparently this happens because music you like generates the release of “feel‐good neurotransmitters” such as dopamine or serotonin, making you feel relaxed and happy and, therefore, focus better. And this happens even when the task you’re doing is very complex, as the tasks I usually deal with in my daily routine.
And, it’s been a few years now that, to be happy, motivated and concentrate, I use several on line music services such as Spotify, Apple music, Play music, Grooveshark, Last.fm, Deezer, Sound Cloud and so on, some months paying subscriptions and some months using the free service, with advertisements and limitations, depending on my financial situation.
However, there are days where, in my war against online procrastination, I need to switch off the internet or even get out of my office at home without my mobile phone.
Two sons playing around and thousands of phone calls offering me every kind of stupid service do not help creating the perfect environment to concentrate. For this reason I started to look for an mp3 converter, so I could listen to my music in a portable audio mp3 player and walk around in the garden trying to think and develop ideas in peace.
At the beginning I thought this was impossible, or at least illegal. But I found out it’s not illegal at all. You can convert into mp3 whatever you want, but you have to pay to get the program to do it.
I realised that many other users of music services have the same requirement to convert their lists to an mp3 format, so that they can listen to their favourite songs on any music player or phone freely. And when there is demand, there is an offer, and there are already a lot of tools that can convert your playlists to MP3 files, even though some of them are not working as good as they claim.

Once there was Deezify, but it’s dead now.
the new Spotify downloader uses vk.com social networking site and Youtube to find and download tracks. It doesn’t download tracks from Spotify directly. It searches the songs on the VK network and if the songs are not available there you can’t download them. So, it’s more like a P2P music sharing site, not a perfect tool for Spotify downloader.
Spotify VK Downloader works in the following steps:
You have to create a login account for yourself in vk.com
Go to the Spotify page where you will see the playlists getting displayed. To download completely, scroll it down till the end. Use the Spotify VK downloader button to choose the songs that you want and click on “Download” button.
Wait until all the songs are downloaded. You will get a pop‐up window which shows the status of the download. The color coding is: Blue – Searching, Green – Found, Grey – Not found
25% of Spotify songs are not found according.
Only works for Spotify.
This recorder seems to have stopped the auto ID3 tagging.

Crux of the matter
My suspect is that all those apps creators know perfectly well in which liberal market we are, and they take advantage from the situation, but in my opinion, probably due to the fact that I’m a musician in my free time, recording audio this way is not completely legal, nor ethic.
I confess I recorded The final Cut by Pink Floyd on cassette. I hope that Waters and Gilmour can one day forgive me.
So, I have a question now: Is this part of the hi‐tech revolution?
A few years ago, the music industry responded to the pirate market launching streaming music services and offering flat monthly fees. You don’t actually own the music, so if you cancel your subscription you are screwed, but usually and except for some high‐profile exclusives, you don’t have to spend money every time you wanted to hear a new song or album.
The most popular among those services, Spotify and iTunes have been crucial for the good health of the music industry, being a sort of lifejacket for both the industry and the musicians. But anyway, musicians are already used to lose money, and that is why they are not so worried anymore.
The typedesigner is the next musician
Thinking about it all, I have realized that the font market is using a similar strategy, with on‐line services such as Typekit or Monotype which provide subscribers with access, under a single licensing agreement, to font libraries, and with the free Google font service that has completed the offer. Google is actually not interested in monetizing it, but probably they want to control the data market.
Even with this huge offer, you still find thousands of copied fonts in the web. In his paper “How Github became the web’s largest font piracy site”, Roel Nieskens analizes the reasons why this happens and try to fix the problem with a simple word: Self‐regulation.
Actually, probably this is the only answer to the piracy. Self‐regulatation, inside the profession and inside the associations, to educate students and the public in general.
I think we all agree that piracy is the result of some phenomena of our time. Low prices, intrusions, too many hours of work and job offers for impossible profiles, foster a too much “copied” market. Of course, this kind of problems do not affect the companies on the top of the pyramid, but without the last graphic designer at the bottom of the pyramid, we cannot evolve to the next evolution step where everybody use original programs and fonts, and they all get fairly payed.
But are the designers thinking of it? Are the associations thinking of it? Who is out there to defend the profession and the designers in general.…?
Lets assume music is a “human right”, and people can copy it, but the fonts / programs used by graphic designers…?
Will be the typedesigner the next musician? We are open to discussion.
